FTTx Project Checklist
FTTB, FTTC, FTTD, FTTH, FTTK, FTTN, and FTTP all called FTTx here.
Fiber to the x(FTTX) is a generic term for any broadband network architecture using optical fiber to last mile telecommunications. The term is a generalization for several configurations of fiber deployment, ranging from FTTN (fiber to the node) to FTTH (fiber to the home).
FOT Blog now is sharing a full equipment and tool list for a FTTx project managers or engineers, who may be interested in this wide fiber network area.
Passive optical network equipment:
- Optical Line Terminal-OLT products
- CATV Amplifiers, EDFA, Optical transmitter/reciever etc.
Horizontal directional drilling(HDD), is a construction machine of laying a variety of underground utilities (pipelines, cables, etc.), without excavating the ground surface, with minimal impact on the surrounding area.
Optical Fiber Cable
Fibre optic cable being laid in some fiber broadband project. They can all anywhere from 12/24/36 etc fibers.
Multimedia/ODF cabinets (Outdoor ODF boxes)
The enclosure (along with the customer premise equipment) is installed on the wall of the building.
Fiber Optic systems
Fiber connector to allow it to be easily connected and disconnected from transmitting and receiving equipment.
- PLC Splitter/SFP module/Fiber Patch cables etc
- Fiber optic patch cord
- Fiber optic adapter
Backup Battery(If neccessary)
A rechargeable battery to ensure continuity of fiber network services during electricity outage.
Single Fiber Media Converter.
Network Termination Equipment (customer’s premises)
CPE-Customer premises equipment, whihc is also called an Optical Network Termination(ONT) or Optical Network Unit(ONU), ONU/ONT is preferably located inside an enclosure. Some projects will need more terminals:
- WiFi Router/IAD
- EoC terminal
- IP terminals
- Cameras etc
Optical test equipment tools (Tool kits);
UTP cable (RJ45 connector /Cable ties);
